Dental implants

An implant is a titanium screw that acts as a root inside the bone. A crown is placed on top that looks and works like your own tooth. Unlike a removable denture it does not move, is not taken out at night, and does not lean on neighbouring teeth.

When to come in

  • You lost a tooth and the gap is still there.
  • You wear a removable denture that shifts or bothers you.
  • A tooth is going to be extracted and you want to know what comes next.
  • You have a bridge resting on healthy teeth and would rather not grind them down further.

What you should know

This is the treatment where travel planning matters most. Placement and final crown are separated by months, so implants normally mean two trips. If a clinic offers you the whole thing in one week, ask exactly what they intend to fit. Write to us with your case before you buy tickets.

How the visit goes

Assessment

X-ray and evaluation of available bone. Not everyone is a candidate, and that is decided here.

Placement

Under local anaesthetic the implant is placed in the bone. Minor, same-day surgery.

Integration

The bone fuses to the titanium over several months. This period cannot be shortened.

Crown

Once integrated, the final crown is made and fitted to your bite.

Common questions

How long does an implant last?

With good hygiene and regular checks, many years. What most threatens it is gum disease around the implant, prevented exactly as with a natural tooth.

I am coming from abroad. How many trips will I need?

Usually two, separated by several months of healing. Send us your situation and we will tell you what is realistic for your case before you commit to dates.

What if there is a problem after I go home?

Ask us this before you book — and ask every clinic you consider. We will tell you plainly what can be resolved remotely, what needs a local dentist, and what would require you to come back.

Does smoking matter?

Yes. Tobacco significantly reduces the chance an implant integrates well. It is one of the first things the doctor will discuss with you.

Shall we book it?

Write to us and we will tell you what is available. If you are travelling, send your dates and we will say plainly whether they are realistic.
