Smile design
Smile design is not one treatment but a plan: your face, your bite and the shape of your teeth are studied, and then it is decided which combination of whitening, composite or veneers gets to the result you want. The planning comes first, before any tooth is touched.
When to come in
- You do not like the colour of your teeth.
- You have gaps, chipped teeth, or wear from the years.
- You want to change the shape or size of some teeth.
- You have an event coming up and want to know what is possible in the time you have.
What you should know
Smile design is not only cosmetic. If there is decay, gum disease or an unbalanced bite, that is treated first — otherwise the result will not last. And no result can be guaranteed in advance. What can be done is show you the preview and discuss it honestly before starting.
How the visit goes
What you want to change
We listen first. Much of the work is understanding exactly what bothers you.
Study
Photographs, models and a review of your bite. A design that ignores how you bite will not last.
Preview
You are shown the expected result before anything starts, so you can react and adjust.
Treatment
Carried out in stages, in the planned order.
Common questions
Do veneers damage the tooth?
It depends on the type. Some require removing a thin layer of enamel, others are minimally invasive. The doctor will tell you which applies to your case, and what it involves, before you decide.
How long does whitening last?
Usually one to three years, depending on what you drink and whether you smoke. Coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco shorten it most.
Can I whiten if I have crowns or white fillings?
Whitening works on natural tooth, not on materials. If you have visible restorations they may need replacing afterwards so the colour matches. Better to know that before starting.
Will all my teeth end up identical and very white?
That is your decision and worth discussing. A natural smile varies in shape and shade; a result that is too uniform shows. You see it in the preview and it can be adjusted.
